History

Established in 1959, Grimes Industrial Products Group remains independent and owner-operated.  We are a "total supply solutions" supplier bringing ingenuity + workplace applications expertise to the table.   It is our goal to provide innovative products and efficient service needed for improved productivity.   We maximize benefit to our customers, recognize our responsibilities to the community and honor the Grimes tradition of service to the Canadian industry.

Our people are our strength.  Everyone at Grimes plays a key integral part in our operations and we focus on continually upgrading skill levels through ongoing training programs.  Excellence in customer service, systems solutions and technical product knowledge is our goal.

History - Grimes was initially known as Grimes Abrasives, "the sandpaper people".  Today, with over 50 years of experience of providing the full range of abrasives, sanding and finishing tools, maintenance, repair and overhaul needs, specialized industrial supplies and related products for the woodworking, wood product manufacturing, metal fabricating, aerospace, automotive, automotive aftermarket, plastics and marine industries we provide a "total supply solution".

Samuel Burt Grimes was a founder of Canada Sandpapers.  His son Warren Grimes created and guided Grimes Abrasives from 1959 to 1966.  Warren's son Don Grimes led the company through a 24-year period of increasing success to 1990, when his long-time partner Brian Myers became President and the steward of the Grimes tradition of technical ingenuity, applications expertise, product knowledge, and service.

Grimes customers enjoy the ultimate benefits of that tradition.   Our success has enabled us to develop sophisticated customer service and supply-chain management systems, to build strong alliances with manufacturers of superior industrial products, and to continue our search for the innovative tools, materials and supplies with improve performance and enhance productivity.

While Grimes remains the largest distributor of 3M Canada's renowned products in our markets, over the years we have diversified, rationalized, and expanded our lines to include a comprehensive variety of industrial products.  Reflecting that continued growth and our commitment to innovation, in 1998 the company became Grimes Industrial Products Group.
